You can find us at the beginning of Via Garibaldi at number 1621, this street is the only one called Via in Venice because all the other streets are called: calle, campo, fondamenta, campiello. Also in Venice there are a lot of squares but, mind, only one is called square and it is St.Mark’s square, all other squares are called campo. Monumento di Garibaldi

Via Garibaldi was dedicated in the memory of Joseph Garibaldi when Italian troops, in 1866, entered Venice which was under Austrian dominion. This street was built in 1807 covering a canal, running in the middle, with earth. Just near Via Garibaldi there is a very wide park named Giardini di Castello, which was created by Napoleon. To obtain the necessary space to create this park many buildings, including four churches and various convents were demolished.

Nowdays Via Garibaldi is very popular, it is maintaining the ancient Venetian style of living, you can still meet children playing in open air like years ago, housekeepers shopping all kind of food and people meeting to drink a glass of wine. In any case it is a very lively street but not at all a noisy one. Not far there is St. Mark’s square.

To find us it is very easy. Click on the above map.By foot from St.Mark’s square walking straight on the adjacent and famous Riva degli Schiavoni you soon arrive at number 1621 of Via Garibaldi, 15 minutes only from St. Mark’s square. If you do not like walking there are public water-buses, number 1 or 41, every 20 minutes stopping at water-bus stop named “Arsenale”, in the night of course less frequently.
